Mother's Day

On my first Mother's Day, Ethan was about 2.5 months old and we were in the middle of packing up our apartment to move out of state. It was not easy to take time out to celebrate, but Greg did go out and get Crispy Creme doughnuts, coffee and flowers, and the moms were celebrated at church with more flowers.

This year was much more exciting! We got up early for church, as usual, and Greg surprised me with a gorgeous handmade Swarovski crystal necklace he picked out all on his own, with absolutely no hinting from me. Good going! He also had tickets for the Pittock Mansion, which I've been wanting to visit. And finally, he planned a nice date to take me to brunch at the Original Pancake House in Portland after church.

Church was really, really great. John-Mark asked all the mothers to stand, then read from Proverbs 31 and prayed for us. He made a big deal out of how "we would not be here without you... literally!" It was the nicest Mother's Day church service I've attended. And even though we're working through 1 Corinthians, and it didn't have a lot to do with Mother's Day, it was super interesting, and he also gave a new perspective on Adam and Eve, and the fall, which I had never heard. The podcast isn't up as of May 9, but when it is, you can find it here: http://www.ajesuschurch.org/Teachings

Even though Ethan was a bit difficult during breakfast, the food was fantastic and it was really nice to be celebrated. Because it was raining, we decided to put off the mansion for another day, so I still have that to look forward to. And of course, I have another little one to look forward to mothering in a short while! I can't wait!!
