Anniversary Date Night

We were lucky that our anniversary fell on a Friday this year, and that our new neighbor was willing to babysit the little monster so we could go out for a rare date night. Greg made reservations at Portland City Grill, at the top of the second-highest tower in Portland (the highest is only 10 feet higher). He also requested a window seat and let them know we were celebrating five years. They sprinkled the table with confetti hearts, signed a card, and included an amazing chocolate cream puff for dessert. Good job, Greg!

We ate (and drank!) to our hearts' content...
Greg had the filet mignon and lobster, of course, while I opted for salmon (and snacked on his lobster!). We started with the crab cakes, which were amazing. And believe me, I know good crab cakes when I see them. I try them pretty much everywhere we go! I'm a bit of a closet crab cake addict. Now you know.

Our window overlooked Voodoo doughnuts (among other, more spectacular things), a notoriously off-color doughnut shack known for its unique creations including a maple-bacon bar (don't wrinkle your nose at me...it's crazy how good it is!!).

That was our next stop—how convenient to look outside our window and check on the line. We felt like Voodoo stalkers! There is ALWAYS a line. The first time we tried to go, it was around the corner and barely moving. This time it was at the corner, and we stuck it out. We're glad we did! We tried the apple fritter, voodoo doll, devil's food cake, maple-bacon, maple bar, and old-fashioned doughnuts, but I could have eaten just maple bars and been satisfied.

It was a really fantastic date! We had a wonderful time, and returned home to a sleeping baby. Hurray!
