Greg and I have been pining for a snow day, especially after the little tease of snow we got here at home. It snowed off and on for three days with little to show for it. We decided the next time Greg had a weekend day off, we'd go. Then some friends invited us to their cabin at Government Camp, at the foot of Mt. Hood, for some sledding fun, and as luck would have it, Greg happened to have the day off! We pieced together some snow outfits with what we had and some we borrowed, packing lots of extra outfits just in case.
Saturday dawned sunny and clear in Beaverton. Our little man woke in one of his rare happy moods, and stayed that way throughout the hour-and-a-half journey. As we headed east, it began to rain, and as we neared Mt. Hood, patches of snow appeared, then more and more, until it was covering the road and we wondered if we would have to put on chains. Thankfully, we have four-wheel drive, and just when it started to look bad, we arrived. It was snowing, and there was already a thick layer of new snow on the ground. Feet of snow, not just inches. Hurray!
We sledded, we drank hot chocolate, we played, we rested, and we sledded some more. Madeleine napped great, even falling asleep a couple times in the Bjorn, all cozied up in her bunting. And believe it or not, none of us had to change a single article of clothing... we all stayed dry under our coats and snow pants! It was so much fun enjoying time with friends and as a family, and playing in the snow!
