It took me a while to feel like I was really going to have a baby. I've always been a type-A perfectionist who thrives on daily accomplishments, so checking off to-do's is nothing out of the ordinary for me. But like everyone, I know how to procrastinate. There are a number of miscellaneous projects I've put off over the years because I just didn't care enough, they weren't important enough, or both. But at 30 weeks pregnant, I suddenly feel strangely compelled to complete each and every one of them, no matter how inane, and it's all because of a little thing called the nesting instinct.
At least we know it's entirely normal that I want to try my hand at vacuum-packed bags, get rid of/relocate furniture, fill the cupboards and freezer with food, deep clean the apartment (including our yucky shower!), organize every closet, have the chipping paint—as well as the hole in the closet door—fixed, replace old wire hangers with pretty new plastic ones, build bookshelves to re-organize books and DVDs, get the broken zippers on my winter coat and Renaissance dress fixed, visit the dentist, sell our old textbooks, frame and hang art, scan all of our pictures onto the computer and burn onto CDs in case of fire, get renter's insurance, make my own laundry detergent...as well as paint and set up the nursery! Is it just me, or does that list include more than a few items not in any way related to baby's arrival?
Thank goodness Greg is done with school this week and can start to take on my honey-do's. I realize they won't all get done, but prioritizing has never seemed so difficult!
Seems like a nice place to put a "to do" list for Greg *wink, wink* ~ Take advantage of the nesting instinct! You'll get so much done and while you're sitting there nursing/sleeping/holding your newborn, you'll be so glad that bookshelf is organized and the spots are out of your carpet!
