Happy 2nd Birthday, Ethan!

To celebrate Ethan's second birthday, we hosted an airplane-themed party. It was so cute to see him grow progressively more and more excited as we decorated and prepared for the big event.

First, I made airplanes from do-it-yourself craft kits. Ethan held the pieces and handed them to me as needed (he can be a really great helper when he wants to be!).

Next we hung blue and white steamers throughout the house, while he danced around excitedly, grabbing the ends and doing his best to get in the way.

Using some airplane clip art, I created signs that said "VIP Lounge" for Ethan's door, "Staff Only" for ours and Madeleine's, "Food Court" for the dining room, and "Restroom." Using the same airplane clip art, I made decorations for the blue (chocolate) and white (vanilla) cupcakes. Greg took my idea of making runways down the tablecloths and ran with it, adding details I have never observed ;).

When Greg and Ethan came home with a dozen blue balloons and pizza from Costco, the boy could not have been more excited! We were hard pressed to wrest a few balloons away from him to share with the other kids. We tied airplanes to the ends and they had a lot of fun with them.

It was all very simple, but it created a great atmosphere. The kids played in the ballpit and Ethan's tent and tube, and with all of his toys. When we sang Happy Birthday, Ethan couldn't wait to blow out his candle. He knew right away what he was supposed to do. At the end of the song, he blew it out and then ate two cupcakes :)

I think we succeeded in giving him a really special day!
